Mātātoa 2022 is a competition based on fitness and te reo Māori. It is a pair competition, one female and one male per team. The goal is to promote the diversity of te reo as well as the importance of physical health and fitness from a Māori worldview. The competition is open to all levels of te reo and physical fitness. Nō reira, kaua e whakamā, don’t be shy, nau mai tātou! This event is run by Tautoru Ltd and sponsored by Te Mātāwai, the Government Te Reo Māori Funding Agency.

KAIWERO (ATHLETE) WAIVER CONSENT AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Every kaiwero must read and accept the waiver form before they can be entered in the competition.

I, being an adult of 18 years or more, and of my own free will, volunteer to be a participant in the Te Mātātoa. I understand there are inherent risks in all aspects of the event and assume full responsibility for those risks.

I understand that Te Mātātoa may involve weightlifting, gymnastics movements, strenuous bodyweight exercise, and other high exertion activities. I also am not obliged to perform nor participate in any activity that I do not wish to do. It is my right to refuse such participation at any time during Te Mātātoa.

I grant permission to Te Mātātoa and any other media agency employed for the purpose of the competition to publish any photographs or any other media material captured of me, whether for promotional material or otherwise.

Te Mātātoa expects all kaiwero to promote and display principles of tikanga Māori during the competition, including ngākau tapatahi (integrity), whakaute (respect), whanaungatanga (positive relationships), and ngākau whakaiti (humility). Te Mātātoa reserves the right to disqualify any kaiwero from participating in the competition for digressing from these tikanga.

I understand that Te Mātātoa will prepare a rescheduled date if there is a likelihood the event cannot take place on the scheduled date, and inform all registered kaiwero of the new date as soon as practicable. Kaiwero will be given a reasonable period of time to inform Te Mātātoa if they cannot attend the rescheduled date, and will be refunded their entry fee in that event. Kaiwero who do not respond will be assumed to be attending the rescheduled date and their registrations will be held for the rescheduled date. If kaiwero cannot attend the event for any other reason, they may contact Te Mātātoa to discuss a possible remedy.

Lastly, I understand that Te Mātātoa will abide by the use of COVID-19 vaccination status certificates for all kaiwero, kaitautoko (supporters), and kaihāpai (event staff). Any person who cannot prove on the day their vaccination status will not be allowed to participate in the event in any capacity whatsoever.
