KAIWERO (ATHLETE) WAIVER CONSENT AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Every kaiwero must read and accept the waiver form before they can be entered in the
competition.
I, being an adult of 18 years or more, and of my own free will, volunteer to be a participant in
the Te Mātātoa. I understand there are inherent risks in all aspects of the event and assume
full responsibility for those risks.
I understand that Te Mātātoa may involve weightlifting, gymnastics movements, strenuous
bodyweight exercise, and other high exertion activities. I also am not obliged to perform nor
participate in any activity that I do not wish to do. It is my right to refuse such
participation at any time during Te Mātātoa.
I grant permission to Te Mātātoa and any other media agency employed for the purpose of the
competition to publish any photographs or any other media material captured of me, whether for
promotional material or otherwise.
Te Mātātoa expects all kaiwero to promote and display principles of tikanga Māori during the
competition, including ngākau tapatahi (integrity), whakaute (respect), whanaungatanga (positive
relationships), and ngākau whakaiti (humility). Te Mātātoa reserves the right to disqualify any
kaiwero from participating in the competition for digressing from these tikanga.
I understand that Te Mātātoa will prepare a rescheduled date if there is a likelihood the event
cannot take place on the scheduled date, and inform all registered kaiwero of the new date as
soon as practicable. Kaiwero will be given a reasonable period of time to inform Te Mātātoa if
they cannot attend the rescheduled date, and will be refunded their entry fee in that event.
Kaiwero who do not respond will be assumed to be attending the rescheduled date and their
registrations will be held for the rescheduled date. If kaiwero cannot attend the event for any
other reason, they may contact Te Mātātoa to discuss a possible remedy.
Lastly, I understand that Te Mātātoa will abide by the use of COVID-19 vaccination status
certificates for all kaiwero, kaitautoko (supporters), and kaihāpai (event staff). Any person
who cannot prove on the day their vaccination status will not be allowed to participate in the
event in any capacity whatsoever.
